Luke Humphries vs Gian van Veen prediction
Luke Humphries produced his highest average of the tournament to eliminate Kevin Doets in the fourth round, as he continues his quest to reclaim the world title.
'Cool Hand' posted a three-figure average of 103.07 in defeating the Dutchman 4-1, and finished just under half of his checkout attempts in a professional display.
Boasting identical checkout numbers of 13 successful doubles from 27 attempts, Gian van Veen swept aside youngster Charlie Manby by the same scoreline to reach his first - and almost certainly not last - quarter-final at the PDC World Darts Championship.
Much talked about in the lead-up to Alexandra Palace, Van Veen had been touted as one of the players capable of toppling either Humphries or reigning world champion Luke Littler, and this is his opportunity to do just that.
Indeed, Van Veen has won all four of the pair's previous meetings in 2025, including 11-10 in the final of the European Championship in October.
Judging by their similar tournament averages, another close battle should be expected here, so over 7.5 sets is worth considering.
