Lukas Wenig makes his first step onto the Alexandra Palace stage with some degree of confidence having been a surprise quarter-finalist at the Grand Slam of Darts just last month.
The 64-ranked German was also a Players Championship finalist in July and will back himself to continue the progress he has made this year.
There was much expected of Wesley Plaisier when he made his debut at the PDC World Darts Championship last year, having impressed in 2024, but a second-round exit followed for the Dutchman, and he hasn't shown a great deal of form this year.
A two-time World Masters champion on the WDF circuit, Plaisier is capable of a decent standard but his inconsistency makes him a hard man to back. This one could see plenty of momentum swings, so expect there to be over 3.5 sets.
