Liverpool preview: Need a performance

Completely understandably after the tragic death of Diogo Jota over the summer, the emotions and, thus, performance level of Liverpool has been up and down and all over the place throughout the opening couple of months of this season.

The Reds’ performances have been consistently worrying and now results have begun to turn as they head into this one on the back of three successive losses across all competitions against Crystal Palace, Galatasaray and then Chelsea.

Man Utd preview: Search for consistency

Manchester United have yet to win back-to-back matches in the Premier League since the appointment of Ruben Amorim in November 2024, but the Red Devils have a chance to do so against their arch-rivals this weekend on Merseyside.

That is because United went into the break on the back of a surprisingly comfortable 2-0 defeat of Sunderland at Old Trafford a couple of weeks ago, courtesy of goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko.

Liverpool team news: Gravenberch fit but Alisson out

According to Liverpool boss Arne Slot in his pre-match press conference, Netherlands international midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has been confirmed as being 'completely fit'.

The Reds will, though, have to persist with Georgia international Giorgi Mamardashvili in goal as Alisson is expected to miss the next couple of Premier League matches due to injury.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Mamardashvili; Frimpong, Gomez, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Isak

Unavailable: Alisson (Injured), Leoni (Injured)

Questionable: Konate (Injured), Endo (Injured)

Man Utd team news: Rest after the break

After being on international duty, Manchester United have been without the likes of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha with those players given extra time off by Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils remain without centre-backs Ayden Heaven and Lisandro Martinez as well as Noussair Mazraoui ahead of the short trip across to Merseyside this weekend.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Lammens; De Ligt, Maguire, Shaw; Dalot, Fernandes, Casemiro, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Cunha; Sesko

Unavailable: Martinez (Injured), Heaven (Injured), Mazraoui (Injured)

Questionable:

Liverpool vs Man Utd prediction

The performances and results of Liverpool have to remain unpredictable throughout this campaign given the circumstances. They do have an abundance of attacking talent that is yet to click or show that they can play together. They face a United side that put in a very strong performance at Anfield at the start of this year and siding with the visitors to avoid defeat at the home of the champions may not be too wild as it may seem on paper.

Liverpool vs Man Utd tip: Double chance – Man Utd to win or draw
