With the quadruple still a target, Liverpool must recover from defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in midweek by defeating League Two Accrington Stanley at Anfield this coming weekend.

Kick-off date/time: Saturday 11th January, 2025: UK – 12:15pm / US ET – 7:15am / US PT – 4:15am

Liverpool Preview: Rocky start to the New Year

Arne Slot suffered his second defeat in charge at Liverpool during the week as the Reds suffered a 1-0 loss at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Tottenham Hotspur due to a late strike from Lucas Bergvall in the first-leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.

As mentioned, Liverpool have now lost just twice across all competitions in 29 matches this season but they have been a little shakier over the last month or so with five wins, three draws and a defeat in those nine games since the beginning of December.

Accrington Preview: A dream day out

Accrington Stanley come into this one on the back of a positive start to the New Year. The Lancastrians defeated Grimsby Town by three goals to two on New Year’s Day before a comfortable 2-0 win away at Colchester United last weekend.

Stanley have overperformed their budget for well over a decade now but, after flying high in League One in recent seasons, do find themselves struggling in League Two at the moment as they sit five points clear of the bottom two and the relegation places.

Liverpool Team News: Quansah fitness

Jarell Quansah was an illness doubt ahead of midweek but he started the match before eventually being substituted for Ibrahima Konate. Dominik Szoboszlai didn’t make the bench due to illness, too, but is expected to return for this weekend.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Kelleher; Bradley, Konate, Quansah, Tsimikas; Jones, Endo; Chiesa, Elliott, Diaz; Nunez

Unavailable: Gomez (Injured)

Questionable: Szoboszlai (Illness)

Accrington Team News: Fully fit

It appears as though Accrington Stanley have a fully fit and available squad for this weekend with no injury concerns or suspension issues. That means they will be able to name an unchanged eleven from the side that has recently enjoyed back-to-back wins.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Crellin; Love, Rawson, Awe, B. Woods; Martin, Khumbeni; J. Woods, Hunter, Whalley; Walton

Unavailable:

Questionable:

Liverpool vs Accrington Prediction

Once upon a time, in an advert for milk, the phrase went ‘you’ll only be good enough to play for Accrington Stanley’, rather than Liverpool, ‘if you don’t drink your milk. Followed by the famous lines ‘who are they?’ and ‘exactly’. Now the two teams meet for the first time ever as League Two strugglers and Premier League leaders. Liverpool, as mentioned, have stumbled ever so slightly in the last month or so but this should be no issue and a heavy home win is to be expected.
