The Lincoln Red Imps come into this one on the back of edging past Inter Club d’Escaldes in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League before being beaten by Mjallby in the second qualifying round. Even in that 3-0 aggregate loss to the Swedish champions, they were able to hold them to a goalless draw at home.
Omonia Nicosia managed to win the Cypriot First Division last season but they have been left frustrated, not able to emulate last year’s winners, Pafos, who reached the league phase of the UEFA Champions League. Omonia were beaten on penalties by another of last season’s surprise league phase entrants Kairat last week.
Omonia have shown they are shaky away from home so, while favourites for both legs of this tie, it may be a tough test in Gibraltar against a good home team.
