Lille vs Borussia Dortmund Preview: Team News & Prediction

This tie is finely poised between Lille and Borussia Dortmund heading into the second leg following a 1-1 draw last week in Germany.

Kick-off date/time: Wednesday March 12th 2025: UK – 5:45pm / US ET – 1:45pm / US PT – 10:45am

How to watch on TV: UK – TNT Sports / US – CBS Sports

How to watch online: UK – Discovery+ / US – Paramount+

Lille Preview: Home advantage in their favour

Things were looking ominous for Lille in the first-leg after they went a goal down in the 22nd minute. However, this is a Lille side with fighting spirit as they levelled in the second half and managed to grab themselves a draw. Head coach Bruno Genesio will have surely been happy with that, knowing that his side just need to win at home to progress.

Lille have been excellent on their own patch throughout this season’s Champions League so far, winning three and drawing once including a 6-1 thrashing of Feyenoord and a memorable 1-0 triumph over Real Madrid.

Borussia Dortmund Preview: Sporting repeat required

After taking the lead at home, Borussia Dortmund will have been bitterly disappointed not to have come away with an aggregate lead from the first-leg. Karim Adeyemi’s brilliant goal had given them the advantage, but a poor second half performance ended up costing them as Lille equalised through Hakon Haraldsson.

However, Dortmund can take heart from their last away fixture in the Champions League, which saw them ruthlessly dispatch Sporting Lisbon by three goals to nil in Portugal, in what was a fantastic all-round performance from Niko Kovac’s men. Something similar here is needed.

Lille Team News: Zhegrova out, David leads line

Canada international striker and key man for Lille, Jonathan David, will miss the first-leg of any quarter-final if he receives a booking but he will lead the line for Lille this week. They remain without Kosovo international attacking midfielder Edon Zhegrova due to an adductor issue.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Chevalier; Meunier, Diakite, Alexsandro, Bakker; Mukau, Andre, Bouaddi; Mbappe, David, Haraldsson

Unavailable: Zhegrova (Injured)

Questionable: Bakker (Injured), Sahraoui (Fitness)

Borussia Dortmund Team News: Same team as first-leg expected

After joining on loan from Chelsea during the winter transfer window, Carney Chukwuemeka has been blighted by injuries ever since and he remains a doubt for this one, whilst Felix Nmecha also remains unavailable for the visitors as he deals with a knee injury.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Kobel; Ryerson, Can, Schlotterbeck, Bensebaini; Sabitzer, Gross; Adeyemi, Brandt, Gittens; Guirassy

Unavailable: Nmecha (Injured), Svensson (Injured)

Questionable: Chukwuemeka (Injured)

Lille vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction

Lille are notorious goalscorers at home and Borussia Dortmund face a huge defensive challenge. However, their own attacking potency cannot be underestimated when taking into account the speed they possess through the likes of Adeyemi and Jamie Gittens. Not to mention striker Serhou Guirassy, one of the standout players in this season’s Champions League.

Expect an exciting second leg with both clubs not afraid to push extra bodies forward at every opportunity. But whilst the outcome itself could go either way, goals are likely on each side, so consider backing not only both teams to score, but also over 2.5 goals.

Lille vs Borussia Dortmund Tip: Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score
