Maurizio Sarri is under pressure in charge of Lazio, once again, as the Romans welcome a still struggling but slightly improved Fiorentina side to the Stadio Olimpico.

Lazio preview: Steady but dull

In his second stint in charge, Maurizio Sarri is again under pressure with his meticulous possession-based style of football now obviously dull and easy to play against, leading to Lazio having scored just 18 goals in 18 games so far this season.

After a reasonably improved run of form, the hosts’ 2-0 defeat at home to defending champions Napoli the other day means that they have now managed just one win in their last six matches in Serie A.

Fiorentina preview: Slightly improved I Viola

Following the appointment of Stefano Pioli over the summer, Fiorentina were excited ahead of what should have been a positive campaign but I Viola are very much involved in a Serie A relegation battle, now coached by Paolo Vanoli.

There has been a slight improvement of late and the visitors come into this one on the back of a slender 1-0 win over Cremonese at Stadio Artemio Franchi last week, courtesy of a second-half stoppage-time winner scored by Moise Kean.

Lazio team news: Couple of suspensions

Lazio are without striker Taty Castellanos, as he has been sold to West Ham United, while both Adam Marusic and Tijjani Noslin are now missing through suspension.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Provedel; Hysaj, Mario Gila, Romagnoli, Pellegrini; Guendouzi, Cataldi, Basic; Cancellieri, Pedro, Zaccagni

Unavailable: Gigot (Injured), Patric (Injured), Marusic (Suspended), Dele-Bashiru (Injured), Dia (Injured), Noslin (Suspended)

Questionable:

Fiorentina team news: Dzeko a doubt

Veteran Bosnia-Herzegovina international striker Edin Dzeko is a doubt due to a foot injury, while the likes of Tariq Lamptey and Amir Richardson are confirmed absentees, with the latter away at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): David de Gea; Pongracic, Comuzzo, Ranieri; Dodo, Mandragora, Fagioli, Ndour, Parisi; Gudmundsson, Kean

Unavailable: Lamptey (Injured), Richardson (International duty), Fazzini (Injured)

Questionable: Dzeko (Injured)

Lazio vs Fiorentina prediction

Lazio are far too difficult to watch with far too difficult and complicated a style of football to play when the rewards aren’t there and the quality of player carrying it out isn’t there, while the club opts to sell big players, such as Taty Castellanos as well as Matteo Guendouzi, who is reportedly departing for Fenerbahce. Fiorentina may be some way off any sort of acceptability for a club of their standard, they are improving and will fancy themselves in the capital city, too.

Lazio vs Fiorentina tip: Double chance – Fiorentina to win or draw
