In what was surely the biggest win of his PDC career, James Hurrell outlasted fourth seed Stephen Bunting in the third round, defeating the former BDO world champion 4-3 in a thrilling contest.
Former WDF number one Hurrell averaged just under 100 and checked out 43.9% of his doubles in a fine display, and finds himself in the last 16 in what is only his second appearance at the PDC World Darts Championship.
This is not new territory for Ryan Searle though, with the 38-year-old having reached this stage for the fourth time in his career.
'Heavy Metal' is one of just two players - alongside Luke Littler - to have won every set they have played at Ally Pally this year. Searle has increased his performance levels with each round and most recently averaged 102.29 in a 4-0 defeat of Martin Schindler.
Both players will view this as an excellent opportunity to reach the quarter-finals. We marginally favour Searle, but it could be a close-run thing so over 5.5 sets is the tip.
