Italy vs Germany prediction

Italy’s last match saw them arrive as underdogs after losing heavily to Sweden the game before. But a brilliant first period showing saw them take a 2-0 lead over Japan, a cushion which proved crucial down the stretch. The Japanese players rallied, but Italy held on and scored a crucial point in the third period, ultimately winning 3-2, their second triumph of the group stage.

Germany have also won twice in Group B, defeating Japan and France respective, the latter in overtime by two goals to one in a tense battle which saw the Germans lead early, before France equalised in the third period to force extra hockey. The big worry from Germany’s perspective is how much their players have left in the tank after such a tough shift. This is where Italy could capitalise, especially down the stretch as the German players potentially tire. Throw home advantage into the mix as well and backing Italy looks a smart move.
