Inter Milan preview: Stumbling through

Internazionale come into this one on the back of an underwhelming 2-1 victory over Kazakh champions Kairat Almaty in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League at San Siro in midweek.

The Nerazzurri have been inconsistent this season, which is to be expected following the appointment of Cristian Chivu. Their most recent outing in the league saw them scrape past winless Hellas Verona with a last-gasp own goal.

Lazio preview: Boring Lazio

Maurizio Sarri has received criticism in Rome for an underwhelming and fairly dull style of football but the capital city club are beginning to push back towards the top four in Serie A.

That is because the visitors come into this one on the back of a 2-0 victory over out of form Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico in the capital city last weekend, courtesy of second-half strikes from Gustav Isaksen and Mattia Zaccagni.

Inter Milan team news: Still no Mkhitaryan

Former Armenia international midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan remains sidelined for the Nerazzurri this weekend, whilst experienced defender Matteo Darmian is also a doubt.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Sommer; Akanji, Bisseck, Bastoni; Luiz Henrique, Sucic, Calhanoglu, Zielinski, Carlos Augusto; Lautaro Martinez, Bonny

Unavailable: Di Gennaro (Injured), Mkhitaryan (Injured)

Questionable: Palacios (Injured), Darmian (Injured)

Lazio team news: A few issues

Lazio are dealing with plenty of longer-term absentees for this weekend and experienced centre-back Alessio Romagnoli is now a doubt, too, due to a thigh issue.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Provedel; Lazzari, Mario Gila, Pellegrini, Marusic; Guendouzi, Cataldi, Basic; Isaksen, Dia, Zaccagni

Unavailable: Gigot (Injured), Tavares (Injured), Dele-Bashiru (Injured), Rovella (Injured), Cancellieri (Injured), Taty Castellanos (Injured)

Questionable: Romagnoli (Injured)

Inter Milan vs Lazio prediction

Inter have put in some excellent performances this season, but they have been sparse surrounding underwhelming and frustrating games either side of those emphatic victories. Lazio will head to San Siro with a belief they can control the tempo but there is perhaps a lack of quality in the visitors’ squad and so siding with Inter would appear the way to go for this one in Milan.

Inter Milan vs Lazio tip: Inter Milan to win & under 3.5 goals
