Inter Milan preview: Re-asserting themselves

Internazionale collapsed from being in a position to winning a treble to winning nothing at the end of last season before Simone Inzaghi departed and was replaced by former Parma boss Cristian Chivu ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

The Nerazzurri have been improving as the season has gone on. They have a 100% record in the league phase of this season’s UEFA Champions League with victories against Ajax, Slavia Prague and Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

Kairat preview: Kazakh champions

Kazakh champions Kairat Almaty made history to become the most eastern team to quality for the UEFA Champions League with penalty shootout victories against Slovan Bratislava and then against Celtic.

They began with a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Sporting CP in Lisbon before a 5-0 loss to Real Madrid in Kazakhstan. They did then earn themselves a point at home to Cypriot champions Pafos, courtesy of a goalless draw a couple of weeks ago.

Inter Milan team news: Nothing fresh

There are no fresh injury concerns for Internazionale to deal with this week as Armenia international midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan remains sidelined due to a thigh issue.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Sommer; Bisseck, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Frattesi, Dimarco; Martinez, Esposito

Unavailable: Mkhitaryan (Injured)

Questionable:

Kairat team news: Fully fit

Kairat head to San Siro with a fully fit and available squad for this week with no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues and so they can name an unchanged eleven.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Anarbekov; Mata, Sorokin, Martynovich, Tapalov; Kassabulat, Glazer, Gromyko; Mrynskiy, Satpaev, Jorginho

Unavailable:

Inter Milan vs Kairat prediction

With their home advantage, Inter will be expected to ease to a hammering of Kairat. Complacency would be the only issue for the hosts. Kairat are very limited and needed home advantage and penalties to get themselves through, and their only point came in a goalless draw at home, too. They are unlikely to score against a strong Inter side and a comfortable home win is to be expected in Milan.

Inter Milan vs Kairat Tip: Inter Milan to win to nil
