Hellas Verona Preview: Fading Verona
Last season, Hellas Verona had to sell several key first-teamers during the January transfer window after the Italian financial police seized the club. However, Marco Baroni pulled off a miracle to keep them in Serie A before they have starting this season steadily under the management of former Empoli boss Paolo Zanetti.
Verona begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom-half of the table after collecting four victories with eight defeats in their opening 12 matches. They come into this one on the back of a 3-1 loss to Fiorentina a couple of weeks ago with a hat-trick scored by Moise Kean and that means they have now conceded 27 goals in their 12 matches thus far.
Inter Milan Preview: Nerazzurri need consistency
Under the management of former Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi, defending champions Internazionale have not been as impressive or as dominant in Serie A this season and they sit as low down as fourth in the Italian top-flight table but they do begin the match day sitting just a point behind league leaders Napoli at the top-of-the-table.
The Nerazzurri have suffered just one defeat in their 16 matches across all competitions so far this season. They come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw against the aforementioned Neapolitan league leaders at San Siro a couple of weeks ago with first-half goals from Scott McTominay and Hakan Calhanoglu levelling things in that game.
Hellas Verona Team News: Nothing fresh
There are no fresh injury concerns for this weekend’s visit of Inter with defender Martin Frese unavailable as well as Slovakia international Ondrej Duda.
As well as those two injury absentees, Juan Manuel Cruz is also dealing with an ACL injury, whilst Poland international Pawel Dawidowicz is also a doubt.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Montipo; Tchatchoua, Magnani, Coppola, Bradaric; Duda, Serdar; Suslov, Harroui, Lazovic; Tengstedt
Unavailable: Frese (Injured), Duda (Injured), Juan Manuel Cruz (Injured)
Questionable: Dawidowicz (Injured)
Inter Milan Team News: Calhanoglu doubt
Turkey international defensive midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is an injury doubt for this weekend’s trip to Verona as he deals with a hip injury.
Aside from the Turkey and Inter captain, though, the Nerazzurri have a fully fit and available squad and Calhanoglu should be available so they should name an unchanged eleven.
Predicted XI (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Lautaro Martinez
Unavailable:
Questionable: Calhanoglu (Injured)
Hellas Verona vs Inter Milan Prediction
Hellas Verona are expected to be battling against the drop throughout this campaign but they massively overperformed to pull off a miracle and push themselves away from the bottom three and the danger zone. They face an Internazionale side that are expected to go to the Bentegodi and dominate proceedings, despite their lack of general efficiency at both ends of the pitch this season. Inter are firm favourites for this one.
