Hellas Verona preview: Struggling Verona
Hellas Verona begin the midweek catch-up fixtures sitting rock-bottom with just two victories so far this season. The pressure is being heaped on former Empoli boss Paolo Zanetti but the 43-year-old is surprisingly being persisted with by the club.
The hosts come into this one on the back of a slender 1-0 defeat to an indifferent and underwhelming Lazio side at the Bentegodi at the weekend in a game in which Victor Nelsson scored a 79th minute own goal to separate the two sides.
Bologna preview: Mid-table Bologna
Coached by Vincenzo Italiano, Bologna have often been entertaining to watch and, last season, they matched that with an effectiveness in order to win the Coppa Italia but they have suffered from a woeful run of form of late to leave them in mid-table.
The visitors most recently shared a 1-1 draw with Como at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia the other day to mean that they are now winless inside 90 minutes in their last seven matches across all competitions.
Hellas Verona team news: Belghali flying back
Algeria were beaten 2-0 by Nigeria in the quarter-finals of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations and so Hellas Verona right wing-back Rafik Belghali could, or should, be back from international duty in time for the game.
Predicted XI (3-5-2): Montipo; Valentini, Nelsson, Bella-Kotchap; Belghali, Niasse, Gagliardini, Bernede, Frese; Giovane, Orban
Unavailable: Akpa Akpro (Injured), Suslov (Injured)
Questionable: Belghali (International duty)
Bologna team news: Cambiaghi suspended
Nicolo Cambiaghi scored but was sent off at the weekend and he is now missing through suspension, while Jhon Lucumi is unavailable due to a thigh injury.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Ravaglia; Zortea, Heggem, Vitik, Juan Miranda; Freuler, Pobega; Rowe, Fabbian, Orsolini; Castro
Unavailable: Skorupski (Injured), Jhon Lucumi (Injured), Bernadeschi (Injured), Cambiaghi (Suspended)
Questionable: Holm (Illness)
Hellas Verona vs Bologna prediction
Hellas Verona were fortunate to survive last season. They probably put in more genuinely bad performances than anyone but their Jekyll and Hyde nature managed to provide enough victories. This time around, though, they are struggling very badly for any sort of form. Bologna’s performances haven’t matched their results and they have been much better than those results so should come out on top here in the Beneto.
