Bottom of the table Heidenheim are in desperate need of three points as they take on Werder Bremen.

Kick-off date/time:

How to watch on TV: UK – Not televised / US – ESPN

How to watch online: UK – Not streamed / US – ESPN+

Heidenheim preview: Struggles on the road

Another tough away outing for Heidenheim saw them lose by a single goal against Stuttgart in their most recent Bundesliga fixture. They showed good fight in that game, but a lack of quality ultimately cost them and led to their fifth league defeat of the season, leaving them on just three points so far.

However, Heidenheim’s last home fixture saw them register their first league win of the season, a much-needed 2-1 triumph against Augsburg. After racing out of the blocks in the second half of that game, they need to try and channel that ten-minute burst which saw them score two goals into a 90-minute performance here.

Werder Bremen preview: Inconsistency a killer

Werder Bremen are managing to pick up points when they need to but until they put together a sustained run of form, they have little chance of troubling the European places. Their last four league games have seen them win two and lose two with the most recent of those being a narrow 1-0 victory against St. Pauli.

Now for them Werder, it’s about backing that up with another positive result, even if that isn’t a victory. But against bottom of the table, Horst Steffen’s side will be eying up three and a more immediate climb up the league.

Heidenheim team news: Four on the treatment table

Heidenheim head coach Frank Schmidt won’t be able to call upon four players for the visit of Werder Bremen. Sirlord Conteh, Frank Feller, Leart Paqarada and Marvin Pieringer are all injured and ruled out of this one.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Ramaj; Traore, Mainka, Siersleben, Fohrenbach; Schoppner, Niehues, Dorsch; Kerber, Kaufmann, Ibrahimovic

Unavailable: Conteh (Injured), Feller (Injured), Paqarada (Injured), Pieringer (Injured)

Questionable:

Werder Bremen team news: Several absentees

Werder Bremen are without a significant number of players for their trip to Heidenheim, with up to seven players expected to miss out through injury. Whether goalkeeper Mio Backhaus joins them on the sidelines remains to be seen.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Hein; Sugawara, Pieper, Friedl, Coulibaly; Stage, Lynen; Schmid, Puertas, Mbangula; Machino

Unavailable: Agu (Injured), Deman (Injured), Musah (Injured), Stark (Injured), Weiser (Injured), Wober (Injured), Schmidt (Injured)

Questionable: Backhaus (Injured)

Heidenheim vs Werder Bremen prediction

Heidenheim may well be bottom of the table right now, but they do have cause for optimism. Their last home game in the Bundesliga saw them win and if they are going to get out of trouble, picking up points at home is going to be huge for them. Werder Bremen are a good team, but an inconsistent one who are capable of a bad performance from time-to-time, hence their current mid-table status.

This is likely to be a close match, but it’s very much winnable for the hosts. In front of their own fans on their pitch, we normally see the best of Heidenheim and they need to bring that here. Consider utilising the double chance market and back Schmidt’s side to get something out of this game, whether it be one point or three.

Heidenheim vs Werder Bremen tip: Double chance - Heidenheim/draw
