Heidenheim vs St. Gallen Prediction

After having won each of their first three league phase games, things were looking extremely promising for Heidenheim, but they have stumbled since then. Defeat at home to Chelsea was followed up by 3-1 loss away at Istanbul Basaksehir, which has seen them drop out of the league phase’s top eight.

They’ve gone cold at just the wrong time with only one round of fixtures left and when taking into account Heidenheim’s low goal difference, three points is probably a must here for the Bundesliga side to advance through to the round of 16.

St. Gallen will be knocked out of the competition with defeat in this final round of league phase fixtures, but a win may well see them through to the knockout phase play-offs. A point would mean a nervous wait on other results.

One win from five so far simply hasn’t proven enough for the Swiss club, who have conceded by far the most goals of any team across the league phase, 17 in total at an average of well over three per game.

Such defensive instability cannot be ignored in a fixture like this and Heidenheim should be able to take full advantage of facing such a leaky backline. With home advantage also in their favour, back Frank Schmidt’s men to get back to winning ways at just the right time.
