Since then, Frankfurt were beaten in a hard-fought DFB-Pokal tie with Borussia Dortmund that went all the way to penalties. Frankfurt were poor in the shootout, converting just two penalties as goalkeeper Gregor Kobel showed his class for Dortmund.

Against the weaker teams however, such fragilities within the backline can be shielded by the attack, who are capable of outscoring their opponents.
