Hamburg have pushed themselves into the middle-of-the-table in the Bundesliga as they now take on Union Berlin at the Volksparkstadion this week.

Hamburg preview: Steady Hamburg

Following their promotion to the top-flight last season, Hamburg have been competitive, as was to be expected, as they strive to avoid even being involved in a relegation battle down at the bottom end of the Bundesliga this season.

The home team come into this one on the back of a comfortable and impressive 2-0 defeat of Heidenheim in their most recent outing, courtesy of strikes from attacking duo Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer and Rayan Philippe.

Union Berlin preview: Solid Union

Union Berlin's most recent outing saw them share a 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in Albert Riera's first game last weekend. Leopold Querfeld snatched an 87th minute equaliser from the penalty spot for Union in that contest.

The capital city club begin the match day sitting tucked inside the top-half of the table after an impressive run through the middle part of the campaign but that 1-1 draw did extend their winless run of form to six matches, albeit only two defeats in that time.

Hamburg team news: Several injuries

Hamburg have an abundance of injury issues for this one, such as Albert Sambi Lokonga and Albert Gronbaek, while experienced and versatile attacker Yussuf Poulsen is a doubt.

Predicted XI (3-4-1-2): Fernanes; Omari, Vuskovic, Elfadli; Torunarigha, Jatta, Remberg, Muheim; Vieira; Konigsdorffer, Otele

Unavailable: Sambi Lokonga (Injured), Gronbaek (Injured), Rossing-Lelesiit (Injured), Balde (Injured)

Questionable: Dompe (Injured), Poulsen (Injured)

Union Berlin team news: No Diogo Leite

Centre-back Diogo Leite has picked up a thigh injury and so he is now unavailable, while former Celtic right-back Josip Juranovic is a doubt for the visitors this weekend.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Ronnow; Doekhi, Querfeld, Nsoki; Trimmel, Khedira, Kemlein, Kohn; Schafer, Ansah; Jeong

Unavailable: Leite (Injured), Rothe (Injured)

Questionable: Juranovic (Injured), Skov (Injured)

Hamburg vs Union Berlin prediction

Those aforementioned two losses, against Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim, are Union's only defeats in their last eight matches. They face a Hamburg side that, like Union, are among the lowest scorers in what is always an entertaining Bundesliga and so a low-scoring encounter is to be expected for this one this weekend.

Hamburg vs Union Berlin tip: Under 2.5 goals
