Hamburg have performed well throughout this season as they sit in the middle-of-the-table ahead of the visit of Bayer Leverkusen to the Volksparkstadion.

How to watch online: UK – BBC iPlayer, Bundesliga YouTube & Bundesliga App / US – ESPN+

Hamburg preview: Solid Hamburg

Having gained promotion to the top-flight last season, Hamburg have been generally impressive as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the middle of the Bundesliga table under the management of Merlin Polzin.

The home team were enjoying a six-match unbeaten run of form before they recently succumbed to a 2-1 loss at home to RB Leipzig at the weekend in a game in which they took the lead before strikes from Romulo and Yan Diomande for Leipzig.

Bayer Leverkusen preview: Distracted Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen are struggling for consistency in their push for a top four finish and UEFA Champions League qualification and there is perhaps a concern that they are distracted by Europe ahead of their round of 16 clash with Arsenal next week.

Kasper Hjulmand and his Leverkusen side were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw with Mainz at the BayArena at the weekend due to a late Jarell Quansah equaliser, meaning that they have managed just two victories in their last six matches across all competitions.

Hamburg team news: Muheim suspended

Hamburg midfielder Miro Muheim is missing through suspension for this week, while they are also dealing with a few injuries such as Nicolas Capaldo and Albert Gronbaek.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Fernandes; Omari, Vuskovic, Torunarigha; Mikelbrencis, Vieira, Remberg, Elfadli; Konigsdorffer, Downs, Otele

Unavailable: Capaldo (Injured), Muheim (Suspended), Gronbaek (Injured), Rossing-Lelesiit (Injured)

Questionable: Jatta (Injured)

Bayer Leverkusen team news: Several injuries

Bayer Leverkusen are dealing with plenty of confirmed injury absentees for this one, such as goalkeeper Mark Flekken, centre-back Loic Bade and former Real Madrid man Lucas Vazquez.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Blaswich; Quansah, Andrich, Tapsoba; Hofmann, Ezequiel Fernandez, Aleix Garcia, Alex Grimaldo; Terrier, Poku; Schick

Unavailable: Flekken (Injured), Bade (Injured), Arthur (Injured), Lucas Vazquez (Injured), Tella (Injured), Ben Seghir (Injured)

Questionable: Tillman (Injured)

Hamburg vs Bayer Leverkusen prediction

Hamburg came up and were quite functional throughout the campaign. However, having settled themselves back into Germany’s top-flight, they have become slightly more proactive and adventurous as the season has gone on. Leverkusen have been generally quite impressive but their inconsistency is becoming frustrating, ahead of their UCL round of 16 clash, and perhaps siding with Hamburg may well be a good value bet for this one, especially with their home advantage.

Hamburg vs Bayer Leverkusen tip: Double chance – Hamburg to win or draw
