Girona preview: Struggling Girona

It has been a difficult start to the campaign for Girona as the Catalans begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom three and the relegation places, but their performances and results have been improved as the season has gone on.

Michel’s Girona most recently defeated Real Sociedad by two goals to one in the Basque Country last weekend, meaning that they have now suffered just one defeat in their last five matches in La Liga.

Atletico Madrid preview: Inconsistent Atlet

Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid begin just inside the top four and the UEFA Champions League spots, with Los Rojiblancos having been improved after a very average start to the campaign, but their form has dipped again of late.

Atleti suffered back-to-back defeats after the November international break but they have now enjoyed back-to-back victories, defeating Valencia by two goals to one before a win against Atletico Baleares in the Copa del Rey in midweek.

Girona vs Atletico Madrid prediction

Girona began the season extremely poorly with manager Michel able to find some rhythm and consistency in the last couple of months. They remain in the relegation battle but will be expected to push towards the middle-of-the-table in the second-half of the season. Atletico have found form of their own and, even without the foil of Alexander Sorloth, who is a doubt, both teams scoring may well be a good bet for this one at Montilivi.

Girona vs Atletico Madrid tip: Both teams to score
