It has been some year for Gian van Veen and the 23-year-old comes to Ally Pally fired up to do well in the PDC World Championships.
Topped off by winning the European Championship, beating Luke Humphries in the final, Van Veen has enjoyed a breakout year and he will be looking to do well at the premier darts event.
He comes up against Cristo Reyes who returns to the tournament after a six-year absence. The Spaniard had played six consecutive years at Ally Pally but a dip in form saw him fail to qualify until this year.
The 38-year-old earned it the hard way by progressing through the Mediterranean qualifier but this really is a step up for him.
Van Veen should simply have far too much for the Spaniard and we expect Van Veen to kick on and demonstrate his credentials here.
