Genoa headed into last weekend on the back of finally parting company with former Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira, who had overseen a winless start to Genoa’s campaign, with three draws and six defeats in their opening nine matches.

With interim boss Daniele Galloppa now at the helm, Fiorentina most recently suffered a 2-1 defeat to Bundesliga outfit Mainz the other day due to a late turnaround from the Germans in the league phase of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Genoa managed to benefit from a so-called ‘new manager bounce’ in which they snatched a victory against a previously in form and impressive Sassuolo side at the Mapei Stadium. Fiorentina will be concerned that their post-Pioli bounce only lasted around an hour and that the troubles run deeper than the manager, so siding with Genoa to inflict further pain on the fallen giants would appear good value.
