Genoa are hovering just above the bottom three and the relegation places as they welcome a mid-table Cagliari side to the Luigi Ferraris in Liguria this weekend.

Genoa preview: Struggling Genoa

Genoa come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with title challenging AC Milan in a frustrating encounter at San Siro in midweek in a game in which they led until late on before a second-half stoppage-time equaliser scored by Rafael Leao.

Genoa started the season really poorly under the management of Patrick Vieira, failing to win any of their opening seven matches of the campaign. They have improved since the appointment of Daniele De Rossi but are regressing once again.

Cagliari preview: Mid-table Sardinians

Following the appointment of inexperienced coach Tommaso Giulini in the summer, Cagliari attempted to evolve their stye of football to something a little more entertaining with the Sardinians having definitely improved in the final third.

They do come into this one on the back of a frustrating run of form, though, with a 2-2 draw against Cremonese at Stadio Giovanni Zini the other day meaning that they have now managed just one win in their last five matches in Serie A.

Genoa team news: Ekuban now out

Genoa have been dealing with plenty of injury issues recently and now they are also without Caleb Ekuban, while other first-teamers such as Albert Gronbaek and Maxwel Cornet are unavailable.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Leali; Marcandalli, Ostigard, Johan Vasquez; Norton-Cuffy, Frendrup, Thorsby, Caricol; Vitinha, Colombo

Unavailable: Siegrist (Injured), Onana (International duty), Gronbaek (Injured), Junior Messias (Injured), Cornet (Injured), Ekuban (Injured)

Cagliari team news: Several injuries

Cagliari have several injury issues for this one as defender Ze Pedro is sidelined alongside Italy international duo Michael Folorunsho and Andrea Belotti.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Caprile; Luperto, Yerry Mina, Juan Rodriguez; Palestra, Adopo, Prati, Zappa; Zito Luvumbo, Borrelli, Gaetano

Unavailable: Ze Pedro (Injured), Deiola (Injured), Folorunsho (Injured), Felici (Injured), Belotti (Injured)

Questionable:

Genoa vs Cagliari prediction

Daniele De Rossi’s managerial career has seen a pattern of a very good start being followed by a major fall off. The thing with Roma was that his very good start lasted a lot longer than just three games, which will be the concern at Genoa. They face a Cagliari side that head to Liguria with a lack of control at either end but they are reasonably entertaining to watch and so both teams scoring seems a good bet.

Genoa vs Cagliari tip: Both teams to score
