Genoa Preview: Decisions have been made

777 Partners have been coming under intense pressure due to financial and legal issues which also prompted the sales of key men Albert Gudmundsson and Mateo Retegui over the summer but they still have time to make bizarrely timed decisions such as sacking Alberto Gilardino earlier this week and replacing him with Patrick Vieira.

Vieira has had a bang average record at New York City, Nice, Crystal Palace and Strasbourg but has been deemed a more viable managerial option than Gilardino, who took Genoa into the November international break on the back of collecting four points from two matches to somehow see them out of the bottom three in Serie A ahead of this weekend.

Cagliari Preview: Struggling Sardinians

Following the retirement of Claudio Ranieri, who has actually now once again come out of retirement to return in charge of Roma, Cagliari opted to appoint Serie A miracle worker Davide Nicola with the Sardinians now hovering just above the bottom three and the relegation places with a bit of unrest within the supporters.

Cagliari come into this one on the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw against AC Milan a couple of weeks ago at the Sardegna Arena. Nadir Zortea opened the scoring after two minutes before Rafael Leao notched a brace to turn the game on its head. Cagliari equalised before Tammy Abraham then put Rossoneri back ahead but Cagliari did score an 89th minute equaliser to earn a point.

Genoa Team News: Attacking issues

Recent signing Mario Balotelli has had a poor relationship with Patrick Vieira so his involvement is in question with Genoa dealing with several other attacking injuries.

Following the departures of both Gudmundsson and Retegui, Genoa also have a couple of attacking injuries including the likes of Caleb Ekuban, Junior Messias and Vitinha.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Leali; Vogliacco, Johan Vasquez, Matturro; Sabelli, Thorsby, Badelj, Frendrup, Caricol; Pinamonti, Ekhator

Unavailable: Gollini (Injured), De Winter (Injured), Malinovskiy (Injured), Ekuban (Injured)

Questionable: Junior Messias (Injured), Vitinha (Injured)

Cagliari Team News: Fully fit Sardinians

Cagliari have a fully fit and available squad for this weekend’s trip to Genoa this weekend with no injury concerns or suspension issues for this one.

That means the Sardinians will be able to name an unchanged eleven for this one but may be tempted to rotate a bit with a recent poor run of form.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Sherri; Zappa, Palomino, Luperto, Augello; Makoumbou, Deiola; Zortea, Viola, Luvumbo; Piccoli

Unavailable:

Questionable:

Genoa vs Cagliari Prediction

Patrick Vieira’s first assignment in charge of Genoa could see his side leapfrog their opposition as the two sides begin the weekend sitting level on points in Serie A. Vieira is known for wanting to play a progressive style of football that can often be quite ineffective and blunt. Cagliari have scored just 12 goals so far this season with only four teams scoring fewer, one of those being Genoa. As a result, this is unlikely to be a thrilling spectacle for the neutral.

Genoa vs Cagliari Tip: Under 2.5 goals
