Genoa preview: Improved Genovese

Genoa started the season extremely poorly with former Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira sacked after going winless in their opening nine matches of the campaign, replaced by former Roma boss Daniele De Rossi.

The Genovese begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just outside of the bottom three and the relegation places after a much-improved run of form. They did, though, recently suffer a hard-fought 2-1 defeat at home to Internazionale last week.

Atalanta preview: Improved Bergamasci

Having been one of the teams most adept at punching above their weight in Serie A with Gian Piero Gasperini’s attacking style of football, Atalanta have since declined under the management of Ivan Juric, who has now again been replaced.

Former Monza boss Raffaele Palladino, a disciple of Gasperini, has helped Atalanta begin to show signs of improvement this season. That was shown by a match-winning brace scored by Gianluca Scamacca as they defeated Cagliari by two goals to one.

Genoa vs Atalanta prediction

The overall coaching credentials of Daniele De Rossi, after his stints with Roma and SPAL, would have to remain uncertain, with a brilliant early stint at Roma now being replicated in Genoa. Atalanta will head to Genoa playing a bit better with Gasperini disciple Palladino trying to re-energise the Bergamasci and get them back to their attacking best. The form of the two sides would suggest both teams scoring would appear a good bet for this one.
