This is arguably the must win for Freiburg against a St. Pauli side who have lost their last six league games.

Freiburg preview: Draws continue to frustrate

Freiburg just cannot seem to claim three points of late, you have to go back to September 20th for their last they won a game in the Bundesliga, a 0-3 victory over Werder Bremen. Whilst winning in Europe hasn’t been issue, domestically Freiburg have struggled to put teams away, as proven away to Union Berlin.

That one finished goalless despite Freiburg dominating possession and having nine shots on goal. Since then, they have gone away from home and won 1-3 away at Nice in the Europa League, their third win in this season’s competition.

St. Pauli preview: A new low

St. Pauli’s season hit rock-bottom last time out as they were thrashed in horrific fashion by rock bottom Borussia Monchengladbach. The home fans unsurprisingly let their feelings become clear at full time after lowly Gladbach hammered their side by four goals to nil, subjecting St. Pauli to a sixth straight league defeat.

It’s clear now that this may well be a relegation-battling season for St. Pauli and they will all need to pull together. That fighting spirit they showed against Borussia Dortmund on the opening weekend is needed more than ever right now.

Freiburg team news: Kyereh only confirmed miss

Daniel Kofi-Kyereh remains the only certain absentee for Freiburg, although both Dinkci and Osterhage are injury doubts for the hosts.

Predicted XI: (4-2-3-1): Atubolu; Kubler, Ginter, Lienhart, Gunter; Eggestein, Manzambi; Beste, Holer, Grifo; Adamu

Unavailable: Kyereh (Injured)

Questionable: Dinkci (Injured), Osterhage (Injured)

St. Pauli team news: Two out

St. Pauli have a fully fit squad aside from two players, Dzwigala and Nemeth both of whom are injured. This gives the visitors flexibility when it comes to their starting line-up.

Predicted XI: (3-4-3)Vasilj; Wahl, Smith, Mets; Saliakas, Sands, Fujita, Oppie; Pereira Lage, Hountondji, Afolayan

Unavailable: Dzwigala (Injured), Nemeth (Injured)

Questionable:

Freiburg vs St. Pauli prediction

If Freiburg can’t get back into the win column here at home against a side at rock-bottom confidence wise then questions will surely be asked of Julian Schuster. They boast a stronger squad on paper and when considering just how poor St. Pauli have been over the past month or so, Freiburg really have no excuses here.

Expect any complacency to be left in the dressing room and whilst it may be scrappy, Freiburg should do enough to get the three points they so desperately need. Back a home win but don’t expect a thriller, with under 3.5 goals on the cards.

Freiburg vs St. Pauli tip: Freiburg to win and under 3.5 goals
