Freiburg Preview: Fighting for Europe

Freiburg are in a battle to secure European football that could last right up until the end of the season. After a poor run of results, Julian Schuster’s side picked up a much-needed victory last time out against Borussia Monchengladbach, winning 1-2 away from home.

After falling behind through an own goal, Freiburg showed great resilience to pull themselves level immediately before going ahead in the 90th minute through Johan Manzambi off the bench.

Hoffenheim Preview: Snapping the streak

After a run of four league fixtures without a win, Hoffenheim broke that streak with a crucial 2-0 triumph over high-flying Mainz, arguably an unexpected result considering the season being enjoyed by visitors, combined with Hoffenheim’s recent struggles.

The question now is whether they can back that up with another positive result in this one. If they can replicate the defensive showing of last weekend, then they’ll have a good chance.

Freiburg Team News: Ginter back from ban

Whilst Ginter returns from his suspension, striker Junior Adamu will now serve a ban of his own, with Gregoritsch expected to lead the line for the hosts as a result. Elsewhere, a muscle problem could rule Dinkci out from featuring here.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Muller; Kubler, Ginter, Lienhart, Gunter; Eggestein, Osterhage; Doan, Holer, Grifo; Gregoritsch

Unavailable: Adamu (Suspended), Atubolu (Injured), Kyereh (Injured), Ogbus (Injured)

Questionable: Dinkci (Injured)

Hoffenheim Team News: Ostigard remains suspended

Three Hoffenheim players are set to miss out here due to knee injuries, whilst Lenz and Samassekou are absent with calf and thigh issues respectively. Centre-back Ostigard is still serving out a suspension.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Baumann; Gendrey, Chaves, Akpoguma, Nsoki; Stach, Bischof; Toure, Kramaric, Bulter; Tabakovic

Unavailable: Bebou (Injured), Kabak (Injured), Lenz (Injured), Ostigard (Suspended), Promel (Injured), Samassekou (Injured)

Questionable:

Freiburg vs Hoffenheim Prediction

Expect Freiburg to come out of the traps quickly and try to take control early on. They have the players to dominate, but Hoffenheim boast some extremely dangerous weapons going forward, like Kramaric for instance. It would be no surprise to see the visitors gain opportunities on the counter-attack, particularly if Freiburg deploy an ultra-attacking playstyle, as they may well do being at home and needing three points. Therefore, it’s worth seriously considering backing both teams to find the net.
