Fredrikstad qualified for European competition for the first time in over 15 years last season by winning their joint-record 12th Norwegian Cup in 2024, despite a sixth place finish in the Eliteserien. They haven’t played in Europe since their 7-3 aggregate loss to Lech Poznan in the third qualifying round of this competition in 2009.
They now face a Midtjylland side that are a team and a club that have developed their European pedigree over recent years, but the Danes required some fortune to see off Scottish Premiership side Hibernian in the second qualifying round, scoring an aggregate winner deep into extra-time at Easter Road in Edinburgh last week.
Fredrikstad will believe that the league phase of the UEFA Europa Conference League will be enough for them, and Midtjylland have to be seen as favourites for this one in Norway.
