Fortaleza come into this one on the back of a 5-0 annihilation at the hands of Botafogo in their most recent outing at the weekend. The Brazilians are underwhelming domestically as they sit in the bottom four and the relegation places in Serie A. They have won just one of their last 14 matches across all competitions.
They now face a Velez Sarsfield side that managed to win Group H of the 2025 CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores, finishing above Uruguayan side Penarol on goal difference. Velez most recently, though, suffered a slender 1-0 defeat to San Lorenzo in the Argentine top-flight at the weekend.
These are two sides that are both in ill-timed poor form ahead of the knockout stages, and so a low-scoring encounter seems inevitable for this one in Brazil in this first-leg.
