THE LOWDOWN

MALLORCA

Coached by Mexican boss Javier Aguirre, Real Mallorca are once again involved in a relegation battle down at the bottom end of La Liga but the Balearic Islanders have begun to find a little bit of form before the short La Liga winter break. The home team have remained defensively stubborn and reliant on pragmatism at both ends of the pitch.

The home team come into this one on the back of a goalless draw away to bottom-of-the-table and still winless Almeria in their most recent outing, at the weekend. That means they are now unbeaten in their last four matches but have remained frustrating in front of goals, notching just 14 goals in 17 matches.

OSASUNA

Under the management of Jago Arrasate, Osasuna finished seventh last season, qualifying for the UEFA Europa Conference League and also reached the final of the Copa del Rey. However, the Pamplona club have struggled to replicate their form this time around and begin the midweek sitting in the bottom-half of the table.

The visitors have begun to slightly improve and steady themselves of late with Osasuna managing to edge past Rayo Vallecano with a dramatic late winner at the weekend. That victory ended a six-match winless run of form in Spain’s top-flight as they try and move themselves into the middle-of-the-table.

THE PREDICTION

This is expected to be a rough and rugged encounter in Palma de Mallorca with both sides playing a fairly defensive style of football. Alongside Cadiz and Alaves, Mallorca are the joint lowest scorers in La Liga with just 14 goals scored. Osasuna have managed to notch 19 times in 17 matches as they sit firmly in the bottom-half and, regardless of whoever comes out on top, a low-scoring encounter with under 2.5 goals is to be expected.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
