THE LOWDOWN

GENOA

This midweek has been dominated by the departure of a key player in the early stages of this January transfer window for the 777 Partners owned Genoa. Romanian international defender Radu Dragusin, at the time of writing, is set to move to Tottenham Hotspur for a fee believed to be in the region of 30 million euros.

Coached by 2006 FIFA World Cup winner, Alberto Gilardino, an ambitious Genoa side begin the weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table after a four-match unbeaten run of form with three draws and a loss. They held high-flying, top four chasing Bologna to a 1-1 draw in their most recent outing, last weekend.

TORINO

Under the management of Ivan Juric, Torino have been generally underwhelming throughout his tenure with their overall game plan to be supposedly attacking and more progressive or front foot but the Piedmont-based club have been limited in their attacking output, among the lowest scorers in Italy’s top-flight.

Despite being one of the teams least likely to put on a thriller for the neutral, Torino come into this one on the back of a magnificent performance last weekend as they defeated struggling defending champions Napoli by three goals to nil. A sixth of their goals so far this season, in half of the Serie A season, came in that victory.

THE TEAM NEWS

GENOA

Genoa have no definite absentees for this weekend but Norwegian international midfielder Morten Thorsby is a doubt for the visit of Torino.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Martinez; Vogliacco, Caricol, Vasquez; Sabelli, Malinovskiy, Badelj, Frendrup, Messias; Ekuban, Gudmundsson

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Thorsby (Injured)

TORINO

Torino are missing a couple of key players, including centre-back Perr Schuurs, whilst Czech defender David Zima is also a doubt for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-1-2): Milinkovic-Savic; Djidji, Buongiorno, Rodriguez; Bellanova, Ricci, Ilic, Lazaro; Vlasic; Sanabria, Zapata

UNAVAILABLE: N’Guessan (Injured), Schuurs (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Zima (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Both firmly ensconced in the middle-of-the-table, these two teams will be relatively content with the first-half of the 2023/24 campaign. Whilst Genoa went into the campaign on the back of a busy summer transfer window, comfortably avoiding the drop would remain a success after their promotion last year. Torino will want to be a little more proactive going forward but they are just three points off the top seven and the European spots. These are two relatively evenly matched sides and a game in which they are both content to avoid defeat would not be surprising.

TIP: UNDER 3.5 GOALS
