THE LOWDOWN

FROSINONE

Following promotion to the top-flight last season, Frosinone had enjoyed a relatively impressive opening few months of the 2023/24 campaign but the Romans do now find themselves slipping down towards the bottom three and the relegation places in Serie A after some really poor form over the festive period.

Still under the management of Eusebio Di Francesco, the Romans come into this one on the back of being thumped 5-0 by Atalanta on Monday evening. That loss means that Frosinone, who are intent on playing a front foot and progressive style of football, have won just one of their last nine matches in all competitions, conceding 22 goals in that run.

CAGLIARI

Following promotion back to the top-flight last season by beating Bari in the Serie B playoff final, Cagliari endured a very difficult start to life back in Serie A with no victory in their opening 11 matches of the campaign. However, coached by former Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri, things have certainly improved in the last couple of months.

The Sardinians begin the weekend sitting outside of the bottom three and the relegation places after a fourth win in their last nine matches in the league last weekend. They came from behind to defeat top four chasing Bologna by two goals to one and they have suffered just two defeats in their last six matches.

THE PREDICTION

This one has the potential to be a genuine thriller in the capital on Sunday afternoon. Frosinone are in poor form but they have remained worth watching with their 20 matches so far this season consisting of 64 goals. They now face a Cagliari side that head to the mainland in good form and likely of the view they can steal another victory in this one so an entertaining encounter could be in store as the hosts seek to get back on track, too. Both teams scoring looks like a good bet for this one.
