Fiorentina Preview: Going one better

In each of the last two seasons, Fiorentina have reached the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League before losing to West Ham United with a last-gasp Jarrod Bowen winner and then losing in extra-time to Greek Super League side Olympiakos last season.

Now, with Raffaele Palladino replacing Bologna-bound Vincenzo Italiano last summer, I Viola will be looking to go one better in this season’s tournament but they must overturn another knockout deficit this week having been beaten by Real Betis in Seville in the first-leg.

Real Betis Preview: Betis’ brilliant form

In that clash at the Benito Villamarin last week, Real Betis defeated the Italians by two goals to one with goals from Abde Ez and Antony giving them a 2-0 lead before Fiorentina defender Luca Ranieri pulled one back for Fiorentina in the 73rd minute.

Coached by former Malaga, Manchester City, Real Madrid and West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini, Betis have become one of the best teams in Europe in the last few months with ‘the Engineer’, as Pellegrini is nicknamed, producing some brilliant, vibrant football once again.

Fiorentina Team News: Kean fully fit

A major boost for Fiorentina is that their top scorer, Italy international striker Moise Kean, has returned to full fitness for I Viola ahead of the second-leg. They do, though, remain without the versatility of Dodo for this week’s visit of Betis to Florence.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): De Gea; Pongracic, Comuzzo, Ranieri; Parisi, Mandragora, Richardson, Fagioli, Gosens; Beltran, Gudmundsson

Unavailable: Cataldi (Injured), Dodo (Injured), Bove (Illness)

Questionable:

Real Betis Team News: Nothing fresh

There doesn’t appear to be any fresh injury concerns for Betis to deal with this weekend as former Leeds United duo Diego Llorente and Marc Roca remain sidelined for the visitors alongside versatile attacker Chimy Avila, formerly of Osasuna.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Vietes; Ruibal, Bartra, Natan, Perraud; Cardoso, Fornals; Antony, Isco, Abde Ez; Bakambu

Unavailable: Llorente (Injured), Roca (Injured), Avila (Injured)

Questionable:

Fiorentina vs Real Betis Prediction

Since that first-leg, Fiorentina have suffered a predictably low-scoring defeat to in-form Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in Serie A, whilst Betis came from behind late on to defeat in-form Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium with the same scorers, Abde Ez and Antony, to that of last week’s victory. Betis have been magnificent for the last few months but Fiorentina, especially at home, will fancy their chances of clawing their way back into a delicately poised European semi-final and both teams scoring would appear a good bet for the second-leg.

Fiorentina vs Real Betis Tip: Both teams to score
