Fiorentina preview: Improving I Viola

Now under the management of Paolo Vanoli, Fiorentina are beginning to majorly improve, having even climbed out of the bottom three and the relegation zone with three victories, their first three wins of the Serie A season, in the last month.

The hosts went to the Renato Dall’Ara last weekend and defeated Bologna by two goals to one, courtesy of first-half goals from midfielder Rolando Mandragora and striker Roberto Piccoli.

Cagliari preview: Struggling Sardinians

Following the appointment of rookie boss Tommaso Giulini, Cagliari had begun well but they have been sliding down towards the danger zone with a very average and inconsistent run of form through the winter.

However, the Sardinians did manage to earn themselves a much-needed victory last weekend as they defeated Juventus by a goal to nil at the Unipol Demus, courtesy of a 65th minute scored by Luca Mazzitelli.

Fiorentina team news: Attacking doubts

Amir Richardson has returned from the CAF Africa Cup of Nations but Fiorentina have key issues in attack as striking duo Moise Kean and Edin Dzeko are both doubtful for I Viola.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): David de Gea; Dodo, Comuzzo, Pongracic, Gosens; Fagioli, Mandragora, Ndour; Brescianini, Piccoli, Gudmundsson

Unavailable: Lamptey (Injured)

Questionable: Parisi (Injured), Kean (Injured), Dzeko (Injured)

Cagliari team news: A few issues

Cagliari are dealing with a few issues for this one as Italy internationals Michael Folorunsho and Andrea Belotti are confirmed absentees with Gabriele Zappa and Alessandro Deiola being doubtful.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Caprile; Ze Pedro, Yerry Mina, Luperto; Palestra, Gaetano, Adopo, Makoumbou, Obert; Kilicsoy, Esposito

Unavailable: Folorunsho (Injured), Felici (Injured), Belotti (Injured)

Questionable: Zappa (Injured), Deiola (Injured)

Fiorentina vs Cagliari prediction

Juventus are a team that want to dominate the ball under Luciano Spalletti. That helped Cagliari soak up the pressure quite easily and hit a fallible side in one of their few attacks. Fiorentina will again likely want to dominate the ball again, especially with their home advantage, and so they will be concerned about the visitors’ resilience and doggedness but Fiorentina do remain favourites at the Artemio Franchi.

Fiorentina vs Cagliari tip: Fiorentina to win & under 3.5 goals
