Drawn into a tough group, Finland looked to have given themselves a chance of a surprise qualification in the summer but that has since come to a halt.

Kick-off date/time:

How to watch on TV: UK – Not televised / US – FOX Sports

How to watch online: UK – Amazon Prime / US – Disney+

Key stats

  • Finland have won all their previous three international matches at home against Lithuania.
  • Finland are aiming to win successive home matches in the same World Cup qualifying campaign for the first time since the 2010 edition.
  • None of Finland’s last 44 World Cup qualifying matches have finished without a goal being scored. The last 0-0 was away against Andorra in September 2005.
  • Lithuania have won only one of their last 20 World Cup qualifying matches (D4 L15).

Finland vs Lithuania prediction

Back in the summer, Finland defeated Poland by two goals to one but a 2-1 defeat to the Polish in the reverse fixture in Warsaw last month, with Poland also earning a surprise draw against the Netherlands, has left Finland in a tricky spot to even achieve second place. Lithuania are battling with Malta to avoid finishing bottom. They have drawn both games against the Maltese and sit a point ahead of them in Group G.

The Netherlands are expected the runaway force at the top of the group, albeit only sit above Poland on goal difference. The Oranje do have a game-in-hand, though. Lithuania did manage to hold Finland to a draw in Vilnius earlier on in qualification.

Lithuania will believe they can be a very frustrating and stubborn opponent for the Fins, albeit a home win in Helsinki is still to be expected for this one this week.

Finland vs Lithuania tip: Finland to win & under 3.5 goals
