You have to go back to January 30th for the last time that FC Cologne tasted victory in the Bundesliga, beating Wolfsburg by a goal to nil. Since then, they’ve picked up just two points from their next six matches, losing four. Whilst they have reason to be satisfied with a point away to Hamburg most recently, it’s three they need to give themselves breathing space from the relegation places.

Conceding goals remains a huge problem for this team, that win over Wolfsburg was the last time that FC Cologne kept a clean sheet, whilst they haven’t scored more than twice in any fixture since late November.

Borussia Monchengladbach made full use of playing in front of their own fans in the last round of Bundesliga fixtures. A convincing showing saw them get the better of St. Pauli, winning 2-0 in what was their second home fixture in a row which saw them keep a clean sheet.

Six points from their last three has given them the breathing room that their opponents desperately crave and they know the importance of getting at least something from this one, avoiding defeat and keeping FC Cologne at arms length.

FC Cologne’s winless streak is now becoming a huge concern and failure to bring it to an end this weekend could see them drop into the bottom three. 

Borussia Monchengladbach have made excellent use of home advantage over the past few weeks and it’s time for their opponents here to do the same. Gladbach’s road struggles don’t seem to be going away and in a tight battle such as this, home advantage could well go a long way.
