With two games of qualification to go in Africa, Guinea-Bissau still have a slight chance of making the top two as they now take on a poor Ethiopia side this week.

Key Stats

  • Ethiopia have won only one of their last 12 World Cup qualifying matches (D5 L6).
  • Guinea-Bissau have lost only two of their last ten World Cup qualifying matches (W2 D6).
  • Guinea-Bissau are aiming to win successive World Cup qualifying matches for only the second time. They previously did so in September 2019 when they won back-to-back matches against São Tomé and Príncipe.

Ethiopia vs Guinea-Bissau Prediction

After eight match days in Group A of CAF qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Egypt sit five points clear at the top-of-the-group, with Burkina Faso in pole position to finish second and potentially earn themselves an intercontinental playoff place, with Sierra Leone three points further back and Guinea-Bissau five behind.

Guinea-Bissau would need to win both of these games and hope that Burkina Faso lose both of their games, whilst Sierra Leone lose at least one of those matches. They begin the final couple of fixtures with a clash against an Ethiopia side that have only beaten Djibouti during their qualifying campaign thus far.

Under the management of Luis Boa Morte, Guinea-Bissau shouldn’t be able to squeeze themselves into the top two, but they should come out on top in this one at least.
