Estudiantes come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Boca Juniors at La Bombonera in Buenos Aires at the weekend due to second-half goals from Carlos Palacios and Miguel Merentiel. That means that the hosts have now managed just one victory in their last eight matches across all competitions.
They now take on a Botafogo side that, owned by John Textor and coached by Renato Paiva, most recently suffered a 1-0 loss to Atletico Mineiro the other day due to a 48th minute winner scored by Tomas Cuello. They are now winless in three matches since defeating Carabobo by two goals to nil in this competition earlier this month.
Neither Estudiantes or Botafogo will be overly content with their overall form at the moment and a low-scoring encounter is to be expected for this week’s clash in Argentina.
