Equatorial Guinea preview: Defeat in their opener
Equatorial Guinea come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat to the Burkina Faso in their opener, in extraordinarily dramatic circumstances after left wing-back Basilio Ndong had been sent off just inside the second-half.
Despite that, the Equatorial Guineans went ahead in the 85th minute via Marvin Anieboh. It wasn’t enough, though, as the Burkinabes turned the game on its head with two goals in second-half stoppage-time scored by Georgi Mingounou and then Edmund Tapsoba.
Sudan preview: Sliding Sudanese
In the last couple of years, Sudan have emerged as a genuinely improved nation and one that competed well in African qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but they have slid and finished that campaign poorly before beginning with a defeat in Morocco.
In their opening game of the tournament, Sudan suffered a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat with Riyad Mahrez notching a brace before a goal from Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Ibrahim Maza.
Equatorial Guinea team news: Ndong suspended
As mentioned, Basilio Ndong was sent off for Equatorial Guinea and he is now missing through suspension, while Luis Asue is also a doubt after being replaced early on in the second-half.
Predicted XI (4-4-2): Jesus Owono; Akapo, Orozco, Saul Coco, Nsue; Iban Salvador, Omar Mascarell, Ganet, Ondo; Zuniga, Machin
Unavailable: Ndong (Suspended)

Sudan team news: Alhassane suspended
Sudan are without key man Salaheldin Alhassan, with the 30-year-old having been sent off for two yellow cards in the first-half of their opener against the Algerians.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Elneel; Awad, Saeed Ahmed, Karshom, Khamis; Taifour, Abuaagla, Omer; Abdelrahman, M. Eisa, A. Eisa
Unavailable: Alhassane (Suspended)

Equatorial Guinea vs Sudan prediction
Equatorial Guinea reached the knockout stages of the previous CAF Africa Cup of Nations but they have regressed since then. They were competitive against Burkina Faso and extremely unfortunate to succumb to defeat. They now face a Sudan side that will be stubborn and awkward to play against but the Equatorial Guineans should come out on top in a likely low-scoring encounter.
Equatorial Guinea vs Sudan tip: Equatorial Guinea to win & under 3.5 goals
