The defending champions England produced something of a minor upset in the quarter-finals as they take on a Netherlands side that have been unconvincing throughout.

Lee Carsley’s England haven’t been anywhere near to the quality of the team that won the competition two years ago, having lost to Germany in the groups. However, just like the final in 2023, they came through a fiery and hostile encounter against Spain in the quarter-finals, recording an impressive 3-1 win the other day.

The Netherlands, coached by Michael Reiziger, underperformed in the group stages of the tournament as they finished below Denmark. The Dutch then, though, produced an upset of their own in the last eight at the weekend as they edged past Portugal by a goal to nil thanks to a late winner when down to ten men.

The Netherlands have overperformed by reaching the final four and England appeared to remember just how good they can be at this level in the quarters so siding with the Young Lions looks the way to go for this one.
