Dave Chisnall was unlikely to be happy with the draw he’s been dealt in round one. Because not only is he up against Fallon Sherrock, he may also be up against crowd, as is so often the case for any player who faces Sherrock. It’s impossible to forget the 2020 World Darts Championship when the ‘Queen of the Palace’ smashed the glass ceiling, beating Ted Evetts and Mensur Sulijovic on her way to the third round, becoming the first woman to ever win a game at Ally Pally in the process.
However, that was a long time ago now and since then, Sherrock has lost in the first round in each of her last four tournament appearances. However, she’s taken at least one set in each of those matches, so don’t expect Dave Chisnall to find this straightforward. Chizzy now sits outside the top 20 in the world and isn’t the force he used to be.
Chisnall’s heavy scoring will be key to his success here, as will his composure on doubles, knowing the crowd could try to put him off in their likely support of Sherrock. Back the latter to put a set on the board, but for Chisnall to ultimately triumph.
