Danny Noppert vs Justin Hood prediction
After a year in which Danny Noppert did everything but win a tournament, he produced a typically solid display in the first round, averaging 96.62 in a 3-1 win over fellow Dutchman Jurjen van der Velde.
The world number six is yet to experience a deep run at Alexandra Palace, but he will feel the time is now to improve upon his surprisingly underwhelming record at the PDC World Darts Championship.
Noppert could have his work cut out here though, as he faces one of the surprise performers of the first round. Making his debut, Justin Hood looked completely at ease on the big stage, averaging 99.59 in a 3-0 demolition of Nick Kenny.
It remains to be seen whether Hood can replicate that standard and deal with the exposure of facing one the of the top players in the PDC. Going on the evidence of the first round though, he is capable of taking at least a set off Noppert.
