David Mgoyan: The American Top Team standout aiming to stake his claim as the famed gym's latest hyped prospect

A training partner of UFC top lightweight contender, Arman Tsarukyan, David Mgoyan (7-0) is the latest hyped prospect hailing from American Top Team. In many ways, Mgoyan possesses a very similar fight style to his teammate. A formidable wrestler with vicious ground and pound, the Russian-Armenian likes to utilize kicks at range in order to close the distance and chain takedowns together. With six out of his seven wins coming by way of finish, the sky would appear to be the limit for the undefeated 20 year old, particularly considering that several of his wins have come over opponents with significantly more experience than himself.

Tommy McMillen: Dropping down from lightweight, Tommy "Gun" looks to score his ninth successive first round finish

An undefeated amateur before turning pro in 2019, a brief glance at the resume of Tommy McMillen (8-0) is more than enough to surmise that the Montana native does not like to leave matters to the judges. Arriving on DWCS with a 100% first round finish rate, no fighter has ever even managed to survive until the second frame with Tommy "Gun." The MMA Lab representative charges forward like a wrecking ball, either pulverizing his opponents with strikes or snatching up a submission after hurting them on the feet. However, as with all fast starters in MMA, questions remain over the 27 year old's gas tank should the contest continue into the later rounds.

David Mgoyan vs Tommy McMillen prediction

In short, this is a near "flip 'em" matchup between two exciting featherweight prospects. With 15 combined finishes in 16 fights between the pair, this one is unlikely to go the distance.

One one hand, it's important to note that both men are contentiously at a similar stage in their MMA development - the difference being that Mgoyan is six years younger than McMillen, with only one less fight under his belt at an earlier stage of his career. As such, there's an argument to be made that the Russian-Armenian fighter's eventual ceiling could be slightly higher than that of Tommy "Gun."

However, it's hard to pick against a larger, hyper-aggressive fighter who has finished every single opponent he has ever fought in the first round. Mgoyan is a quality prospect but he's also looked a little tentative and made poor decisions at times during his fights. The ATT representative is likely to win if he can successfully implement his grappling, but he could easily plant his neck in a submission attempting to do so. Furthermore, McMillen's unorthodox movement, reach advantage, and fight-ending power means that he simply can't afford to make a mistake in front of him.

In short, Tommy "Gun" lands something devastating from an unorthodox angle before locking up a choke to take Mgoyan's "0."

Prediction: Tommy McMillen to win by submission
