THE PREDICTION

A quarter-final encounter that had all the makings of a real star occasion as two of the most illustrious counties in England meet for the first time ever in T20 cricket, has been dealt a blow in terms of its spectacle by the enforced absence of England white ball players due to an upcoming T20i series against India, which is set to begin on Thursday. Surrey will not only be without captain Chris Jordan, but are also expected to miss Jason Roy, Reece Topley and Sam Curran, Yorkshire won’t have Dawid Malan, Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow, with the latter two rested following their Test heroics for England. Spin-bowler Adil Rashid is also unavailable having been granted leave from both his Yorkshire and England duties to make the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. Neither team are in the best of form, Surrey have lost three of their last four following a long winning run which saw them comfortably top the South Group, whilst Yorkshire Vikings only qualified due to a two-point deduction enforced upon Leicestershire Foxes due to disciplinary offences.

Surrey are probably better equipped at dealing without their England stars when taking into account the strength-in-depth of their squad and overseas all-rounder Sunil Narine has been one of the stars of the competition so far. The bowling of Yorkshire Vikings has been expensive throughout the group stage and with the batting now significantly depleted, Surrey have to be favoured for victory, maintaining their unbeaten T20 Blast record at the Kia Oval this season.
