THE TEAM NEWS

KARACHI KINGS

  • Karachi Kings got their Pakistan Super League campaign off to a good start as a superb performance with the bat allowed them to see off Peshawar Zalmi in an entertaining clash in Karachi.
  • Babar Azam led the way as he opened with an impressive 78 from 56 balls and with skipper Imad Wasim also chipping in with a half-century, the Kings were able to post a strong score of 201/4.
  • Chris Jordan removed the dangerous Tom Banton as well as Haider Ali in the fourth over and despite a fightback from Zalmi, the Kings held on to claim the victory by 10 runs and they are likely to name the same team for this contest.

QUETTA GLADIATORS

  • Defending champions Quetta Gladiators were unable to make it back-to-back wins at the start of PSL 5 as they fell to defeat against Peshawar Zalmi in their second game of the tournament.
  • Jason Roy announced himself to the competition with an unbeaten 73 but he was offered very little support aside from skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed chipping in with 41 as the Gladiators made slow progress on their way to 148/5.
  • That score did not prove to be enough as the class of Kamran Akmal did the damage for Zalmi and improvements need to be made with both bat and ball on the back of the six-wicket defeat.

THE PREDICTION

Karachi Kings are the only remaining unbeaten side in the Pakistan Super League with every team suffering a defeat so far. They have only played one game but produced an impressive display to see off Peshawar Zalmi. Quetta Gladiators lost their first game of the tournament as they fell to defeat against Zalmi and even though the defending champions are capable of bouncing back, the Kings' strong bowling line-up could prove an issue for the Gladiators and Karachi should take the victory.
