THE TEAM NEWS

PERTH SCORCHERS

  • Perth Scorchers come into this contest on the back of having seen their 100% BBL 11 record come to an end at the seventh time of asking this past Tuesday, after they were beaten by Sydney Thunder.
  • The Scorchers aren’t expected to panic after a such a loss and it would be no surprise if they even kept the same starting team for this one especially with a short turnaround between fixtures.

MELBOURNE STARS

  • Melbourne Stars will have been relieved to get back to winning ways last time out, winning against Brisbane Heat by 20 runs after racking up a score of 207/9 batting first at the Gabba.
  • Most pleasing for the Stars was despite their big-name players such as Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell and Andre Russell contributing a combined total of just two runs with the bat, lesser names such as Joe Clarke and Hilton Cartwright stepped up to the plate instead, underlining the strength-in-depth at their disposal.

THE PREDICTION

A high-scoring encounter is in prospect here between two destructive batting units on their day on what should be a belter of a track at Marvel Stadium. The spin-bowling duo of Qais Ahmad and Adam Zampa will be crucial for the visitors against Perth’s explosive top order that includes the likes of Mitchell Marsh, Colin Munro and Josh Inglis. This match really could go either way, depending on who fires on the day with the bat and whilst Melbourne Stars contain the more varied spin options, Perth Scorchers have plenty of experienced pace bowling on their side. Ultimately the consistency shown by the Scorchers across the competition so far despite their recent blip may just tip the scales in their favour here, so back them to edge what should be a cracker.

*This match has since been postponed due to a positive Covid-19 test within the Melbourne Stars' camp.
