Charlotte begin the weekend sitting tucked in the top seven and the play-off places. The home team come into this one on the back of a CONCACAF Leagues Cup league phase campaign in which they beat both Pumas UNAM and Atlas before a defeat to Pachuca.
The Columbus Crew sit outside of the top nine, having managed just five victories in their 18 matches so far this season. The visitors managed to beat both Atlas and Pachuca before edging past Pumas on penalties in the CONCACAF Leagues Cup.
The Columbus Crew will take confidence from that run and may be obdurate opposition for a Charlotte side that are themselves defensively solid and so a low-scoring encounter seeming likely at the Bank of America Stadium.
