The first round was an Ally Pally debut to remember for a number of reasons for Charlie Manby, whose encounter with Cameron Menzies will be remembered as much for his own victory as it will his opponent's reaction to defeat.
'Champagne Charlie' averaged 90.62 in his triumph, and despite missing plenty of doubles, managed to hold nerve as Menzies faltered.
He'll take on fellow debutant Adam Sevada, who won an all-North American affair with Canada's Matt Campbell.
Despite averaging less than his opponent, Sevada's timing was excellent against Campbell, and that should give him plenty of confidence against an opponent who is inexperienced on the big stage.
This should be nip-and-tuck between two players looking to seize their opportunity for the biggest payday of their careers. We're expecting a close battle and one that is likely to go over 3.5 sets.
