Cameroon preview: Frustrated Cameroonians
The Cameroonians come into this one on the back of being beaten to automatic CAF qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup by rookies Cape Verde before then losing 1-0 to the Democratic Republic of Congo, late on, in the playoff semi-finals.
There has been a lot of arguments going on behind the scenes with David Pagou having officially replaced Marc Brys in the dugout, despite the fact Brys essentially dismissed Samuel Eto’o’s decision, even threatening action against it.
Gabon preview: Impressive Gabonese
In qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Gabon performed very well before just about being edged out in the group stages by reigning African champions the Ivory Coast, ahead of their own playoff semi-final defeat, losing to Nigeria.
Coached by Thierry Mouyouma, Gabon’s side, nicknamed ‘The Panthers’, who are currently ranked 78th in the world according to FIFA, have a lot of talent in attack, and a fair bit of pedigree and experience through the squad.
Cameroon team news: Two squad lists
The squad list put forward by David Pagou is the correct one, and doesn’t involve some key men such as Andre Onana, as Marc Brys himself had also selected a squad in the messy buildup to the tournament.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Epassy; Tchamadeu, Wooh, Boyomo, Tolo; Onana, Baleba; Mbeumo, Dina Ebimbe, Nkoudou; Magri

Cameroon vs Gabon prediction
Cameroon have had a very messy and frustrating buildup to the tournament. There will be a concern that the confusion could lead to a woeful showing, albeit there is also that paradoxical hope that it could help them show some unity. However, they need to be playing a similar rabble of a side and that isn’t the case here, with the sheer competence, and bit of attacking quality, making Gabon a good bet against the chaos of Cameroon.
Cameroon vs Gabon tip: Double chance – Gabon to win or draw
