It has been a steady start to the season for Cagliari as they now welcome newly-promoted Sassuolo to the island of Sardinia this weekend in an intriguing clash.

Kick-off date/time:

Cagliari preview: Steady Sardinians

Having won two of their opening four matches, Cagliari do now come into this one on the back of a four-match winless run of form but they remain a steady side under the management of rookie boss Tommaso Giulini.

The Sardinians come into this one on the back of an entertaining 2-2 draw against Hellas Verona at the Marcantonio Bentegodi the other day in a game in which they were 2-0 down before snatching a point with a second-half stoppage-time equaliser.

Sassuolo preview: Strong Sassuolo

Sassuolo should have never been relegated in the first instance and they quickly returned to Serie A by winning promotion last season and, with a strong squad, should be looking to kick on rather than just scramble their way to safety.

The visitors do, though, come into this one on the back of a slender 1-0 defeat to Roma at the Mapei Stadium at the weekend, suffering a slender loss to a strong side due to a 16th minute winner scored by Argentina international Paulo Dybala.

Cagliari team news: A few issues

Cagliari are dealing with a few injury issues for this one as defensive duo Yerry Mina and Alessandro Deiola are both doubts, whilst Alessandro Di Pardo and Andrea Belotti are confirmed absentees.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Caprile; Zappa, Ze Pedro, Idrissi; Palestra, Liteta, Prati, Folorunsho, Obert; Borrelli, Gaetano

Unavailable: Di Pardo (Injured), Belotti (Injured)

Questionable: Yerry Mina (Injured), Deiola (Injured)

Sassuolo team news: Berardi a doubt

Sassuolo captain and legend Domenico Berardi is a doubt for Sassuolo due to a head injury, whilst Laurs Skjellerup is now sidelined with Filippo Romagna also a doubt.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Muric; Walukiewicz, Idzes, Cande, Doig; Thorstvedt, Matic, Kone; Cheddira, Pinamonti, Fader

Unavailable: Pieragnolo (Injured), Boloca (Injured), Skjellerup (Injured)

Questionable: Romagna (Injured), Muharemovic (Injured), Yeferson Paz (Injured), Berardi (Concussion)

Cagliari vs Sassuolo prediction

Cagliari haven’t necessarily been playing poorly in their current four-match winless run of form. They are trying to evolve their style to become a little more entertaining and that is beginning to work. They face a Sassuolo side that are often entertaining to watch with Fabio Grosso at the helm and it should be quite a surprisingly fun watch for the neutral at Unipol Demus.

Cagliari vs Sassuolo tip: Both teams to score
