Gerardo Seoane is under a bit of pressure in charge of Borussia Monchengladbach due to inconsistency and underperformance as the Foals take on an improving newly-promoted St Pauli side to Borussia-Park this weekend.

Borussia Monchengladbach Preview: The entertainers

Former Young Boys and Bayer Leverkusen Gerardo Seoane remains in charge of Borussia Monchengladbach, despite a bottom-half finish last season and currently remaining firmly in mid-table. Known for an attacking style of football, Seoane’s Gladbach have had their ten matches in the Bundesliga produce 29 goals after their 34 games produced 123 goals last season.

The home team come into this one on the back of defeating Preussen Munster by three goals to one in a friendly last weekend with their most recent competitive outing being a goalless draw at the Red Bull Arena against RB Leipzig a couple of weeks ago. That means they have won just one of their last four matches across all competitions.

St Pauli Preview: Continuing the progress

After arch-rivals Hamburg get close but fail to regain promotion every season from the second-tier, St Pauli produced a remarkable season to propel themselves from relegation strugglers in the 2022/23 campaign to 2. Bundesliga winners in the 2023/24 season but they did lose coach Fabian Hurzeler to Brighton and Hove Albion.

After a very slow start to former Genoa and Royale Union Saint-Gilloise manager Alexander Blessin’s reign in Hamburg, St Pauli have massively improved to begin the weekend third-from-bottom and in the relegation playoff place. They were beaten 1-0 by league leaders Bayern Munich a couple of weeks ago thanks to a long-range strike from Jamal Musiala.

Borussia Monchengladbach Team News: No Luca Netz

Borussia Monchengladbach are expected to name an unchanged eleven for this one despite their inconsistent form but there are no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues.

The home team do have just one minor injury concern for this one with Luca Netz unavailable with a foot injury. There are no other issues aside from Netz.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Nicolas; Scally, Friedrich, Itakura, Ullrich; Reitz, Weigl; Honorat, Plea, Hack; Kleindienst

Unavailable: Netz (Injured)

Questionable:

St Pauli Team News: Several injuries

St Pauli started the season slowly but have improved with the introduction of some key players from last season, most notably former Bolton Wanderers attacker Dapo Afolayan.

Their long list of injury absentees include former Crystal Palace defender Scott Banks as well as the likes of Robert Wagner, Ben Voll, Connor Metcalfe and Elias Saad.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Vasilj; Wahl, Smith, Mets; Saliakas, Irvine, Boukhalfa, Ritzka; Irvine, Afolayan; Eggestein

Unavailable: Banks (Injured), Dzwigala (Injured), Wagner (Injured), Voll (Injured), Zoller (Injured), Burchert (Injured), Ahlers (Injured), Saad (Injured), Metcalfe (Injured)

Questionable:

Borussia Monchengladbach vs St Pauli Prediction

As mentioned, Borussia Monchengladbach were extremely entertaining to watch in the Bundesliga. Things have calmed a little and results have improved but they have still left a little bit to be desired in terms of outright efficiency and effectiveness. They now take on a St Pauli side that may well be effective on the counter-attack but Gladbach remain slight favourites with home advantage for a potentially high-scoring affair.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs St Pauli Tip: Borussia Monchengladbach to win & over 2.5 goals
